With some next level team logistics, a hand full of flights, a couple of sleepless nights, and too many Yellow Red Bulls to count (or comfortably admit to consuming), RHR not only got to add a new track to the list last month, but also our first podium as a team!
Friday practice gave @thebtrbetters and @j.west639 some time to get familiar with the track. As is common in a practice session, Justin spent the afternoon sessions demonstrating that Emma had a few seconds to find in the next day’s race.
Since this was our first Le Mans start, the practice day wrapped up with timed start procedure tryouts for Rabbit Hole Racing and the Tsunami Team Racing crew (thank you Scott). It may have raised a few eyebrows that we were the only teams in the paddock sprinting around fully suited up, but it sure paid off come Saturday morning! Fun fact: Justin is actually kinda fast for about 25’ on foot.
Qualifying put us P2, and with the hold from Dave and that practice the night before under his belt, Justin got a solid start into turn 1. He would slip into P2 within the first lap, where the team would stay for all 54 completed laps of the race. Emma set the fastest lap for the team on lap 40, and after seeing the checkered flag, promptly ran out of gas and got to meet the very nice crash truck driver.
We are absolutely stoked for our first team podium, but none of this happens without support. Huge thank you to the whole Rybarik family for making this happen and putting up with our shenanigans throughout the weekend. To Tsunami Team Racing, great job on your first endurance race, way to keep pushing (literally) when it mattered, and we can’t wait to share a track with you punks again. @stmsuspension and @thescottrybo, fantastic work with the flawless pitstop! (These guys had us in, fueled, and out in 37 seconds.) @rybette1 , I hope your neck doesn’t still hurt from running the pit board, but know that those updates were the only thing keeping us going for the last 15 minutes of the race!
